It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INSTITUTE Srinagar ( ITI Srinagar) which is in the service of nation, imparting craftsman training to the youth since 1957.
Industrial training institute Srinagar is running under the Administrative control Of Directorate of Technical Education Jammu & Kashmir, implementing Craftsmen Training scheme sponsored by Director General Employment & Training (DGE&T) New Delhi

 

Crafts man scheme was introduced by government of India in the year 1950 to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for domestic industry to raise quantitatively & qualitatively the industrial production by systematic training, to reduce unemployment among youth by providing them employable training, to cultivate & nurture a technical /industrial attitude in the minds of the younger generation.

The scheme was transferred to the state of Jammu & Kashmir in the year 1958 & ITI Srinagar was established in the year 1962. District Srinagar is located in south of Kashmir which is summer capital of J&K State. ITI Srinagar is located at about 2.5 Kms from main town of Srinagar towards north.

ITI Srinagar has always strived to excel its activities by providing skill training in 22 engineering and non engineering trades with 31 trade units having a total seating capacity of 762.women empowerment has been taken care of and separate women wing is being run at the institute exclusively for women candidates, besides 30% reservation for women candidates for all the trades is being followed. The institute has tried to bridge the gap between the skill requirements of the market by laying emphasis on better training facilities.

“Skill development initiative”(SDI) and “Skill Development for youth of Jammu and Kashmir”(SDYJK) schemes where under short term trainings as per the market need are presently being conducted within & outside the state for better skilled training.

In order to upgrade the existing infrastructure at the institute, ITI Srinagar has been covered under world bank aided “Vocational Training Improvement Project”(VTIP) whereunder status of “centre of excellence”(COE) has been granted to the institute to run Electrical sector. Moreover upgradation of four existing trades has been undertaken under the project. The project has been granted by Govt of India through Director General Employment and training and World Bank has aided an amount of Rupees 3.5 crore for the project which started from the year 2008. The scheme is run with the collaboration of private industrial partners whose technical guidance has helped the institute to forecast the skill requirements of the market.

Besides providing skill enhancement programmes for the institutional faculty to have better skill based training, “placement cell” is functional at the institute to facilitate counseling and placement for passed out trainees.

The institute is having quality training facilities by way of well developed infrastructure, latest equipped workshops, and library containing updated books on all subjects besides trained faculty to meet the challenges of fast coming technology.

The institute is committed to the cause of developing a skill base among the youth to enable them to earn a respectable livelihood to help to create an economically viable society.
